Happy Fall!

Oops! It's October and it seems I haven't blogged since early August. Time really does fly when it's the best time of the year - FALL!

I'm heading to SC this weekend for my first football game of the season, and I could NOT be more excited! I can't wait to eat breakfast at my parent's tailgate (complete with Mimosas), watch the Gamecocks stomp the Kentucky Wildcats (hopefully Connor Shaw gets his junk together), hang out with my besties from college (wahoo!), and just soak up the Southern atmosphere as much as a I can!

In honor of the most wonderful time of the year, and the happiness it brings, these are the top ten things that make me the most excited about lovely Fall..
  1. Pumpkins - everywhere!
  2. The fall uniform - sweaters, boots, scarves and jackets
  3. Date nights in cozy pizza restaurants (I'm lookin' at you, Faccia Luna)
  4. New and familiar TV shows to laugh at and love (Up All Night, Glee and Modern Family!)
  5. Cooking with fall/winter veggies and making homemade soup once a week
  6. College Football - enough said
  7. Reading books under a blanket on the porch
  8. Buying my annual Christmas cards (it's never too early!)
  9. 13 Nights of Halloween on ABC Family - who doesn't love Hocus Pocus?
  10. Spending time with friends and family and gearing up for more holidays! Wahoo!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Until next time..

Five Things

I've been gone awhile.. yeah, yeah. But, you know what? It's my blog, so I guess I can write on it when I want.

So for today.. here are five things I'm really into right now. Right this minute!

1. Roses by Leila Meacham-- it's this book about a really strong-willed woman (cue my love for books with really strong, proud women as the title characters.. hello? Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice.. Scarlett from Gone with the Wind?? Get my drift?) that tells the story of three families intertwined with each other in Texas that spans a few decades. LOVE! Thanks Kaley, for hitting the nail on the head when recommending this chunk of goodness.

2. This is coming out on DVD in 11 days. The cold sweats have started and they probably won't stop until July 17 when the last movie installment is finally here. It'll be a sad day.

3. First, I got the new iPhone 4 back during the last weeks of February. After three years together, my poor iPhone 3 gave out on me. 4 is wayyyy cooler, though. And so is the new app I discovered: Instagram. It's like Photoshop on your iPhone! Take a pic, upload it to Instagram and then you can add all kinds of neat treatments to it that make it look way cooler and way more profesh. This is one I took at the Cherry Blossom Festival last weekend. How cool is that?

4. Here's me and Adam's dinner from Monday night (taken again with Instagram.) It was delicious. Shrimp sauteed in butter, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper then tossed with orzo pasta. Asparagus roasted in the oven with olive oil and salt and pepper. And THE New York Original Texas Toast with cheese. Oh, Lawsy! I know I can cook a meal, but when it comes down to it, this bread is always the best part.  I took this photo the night before I crashed and burned on Tuesday afternoon from a colossal migraine. I am finally recovered. 48 hours later.. whew!

5. Man, oh , man do I love this beer-drinking carnivore. I put this up because tomorrow is our 34 month anniversary. Or 2 years and 10 months, for you fancy folks. I love you, A. Thanks for putting up with me, making me laugh everyday and dealing with my Instagram obsession. :)

As always (but not frequently enough),

Reading Rainbow

I LOVE to read, but I have a habit of reading more than one book at a time. I pick up one that I really like and then for some reason or another, I end up starting another before the other is finished. Right now, I am reading three books.  I'm on a vampire kick. Weird, I know. I have reasons though.. so hear me out.

Book One

I started reading Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert over three months ago and I have a confession to make..
I hate it.
It is so boring and I am literally having to force myself to read chapters just so I can get it over with. I really only picked it up because the movie comes to theaters in August with Julia Roberts as the star, and I love to read books before seeing the films so I can appreciate them more. Lots of people RAVE about this book, and it is on the NYTimes Bestsellers List, so that means it's good in my opinion. Maybe if I was a middle-aged woman going through a mid-life crisis I would identify better with the main character.
Or maybe I should just give up.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Book Two

I bought The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner at the beach last week and I am about halfway through. It is a short story with no chapters about a character in Eclipse: the third book in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It's a quick read and it goes more into character development. And, with the movie Eclipse coming out in a few short weeks, it will be interesting to see how Bree is portrayed in the film.
PS: I wish Stephenie Meyer would spell her name right..

Book Three

I recently joined Netflix and it has been one of the best investments I have made in a long time. For someone who really enjoys TV and movies, I am in heaven with all the options. I have been on a Lost kick and I am looking forward to starting the True Blood series after that. Therefore, I decided to start the novels by Charlaine Harris that True Blood is based on. The first book is Dead Until Dark, and I plan on starting it ASAP. Plus, my mom informed me that she has the ENTIRE series of novels and she is going to bring them with her when she comes to visit next month! Wahoo!

Yeah, I know I'm a nerd. But I'm cool with it.

Have a happy weekend!
